Haisu and Yuanyu got married in January in Newcastle. You’d be forgiven for thinking their pictures could be pretty bland what with being taken in a Northern industrial city in the winter but you’d be very wrong about that indeed.
I had originally been booked to cover their wedding ceremony through to the evening reception, but some surprise visitors from China put the permissible number of people in the ceremony room over the maximum. It was a shame not to be able to cover the ceremony itself for the happy couple but I resolved to make it up to them with additional pictures around the city.
We met at Grey’s Monument – one of the traditional meeting places in Newcastle and the statue that takes us all too long to realise is dedicated Earl Grey of Earl Grey tea fame – whereupon a local asked us why in the world we were taking wedding photos in the city. Why? Because it’s a beautiful city to get married in!
We walked down Grey Street, pausing at the Arcade and Theatre Royal, before grabbing a very quick picture at the intersection whilst the pedestrian crossing was on to capture the wonderful feature image for this collection. We then walked down Dean Street and on to the Quayside before turning round to meet their guests at the Vermont Hotel. As always The Vermont was warm, welcoming, and friendly. The guests were treated like royalty – champagne no less – and the live band were excellent.
Please enjoy looking through Haisu and Yuanyu’s lovely low-key and intimate wedding day.
You gotta admit those pictures are pretty cool, and do not say “grey industrial North”. Newcastle upon Tyne is a wonderful and vibrant city in which to marry and I’m proud to call it my adopted home.
But anyway, here’s the rest of the collection. These images might not have the wow factor of the outdoor city shots but I can assure you that we were much much warmer inside the hotel. Enjoy!
Congratulations Mr & Mrs Yang. It’s been a great pleasure.
