Glass House at Wynyard Hall - Food Photography

The Glass House Wynyard Hall Food desserts

Food photography is a real passion for me, it’s the marrying of so many arts: cookery, plating, food styling, photography, retouching, and having the patience and self control not to dive in to the amazing dishes in front of you. Luckily for me, the amazing chef at The Glass House Restaurant was happy to cook me a vegan dish (or two - I like my food) to keep me ticking over throughout the shoot.

As The Glass House is literally just that - a Victorian glass house - we made the images light, and modern, with slightly desaturated and deepened greens to make everything stand out. Nothing too intense, just fresh, bright images that let the food speak for itself.

In addition to the food, the restaurant also had a big focus on drinks, notably English wines. I was sceptical, I have to admit, but English wines have come a long way in the last twenty years. They very kindly let me try what they had to offer, which was very nice of them, and has had the added bonus of me writing about how pleasantly surprised I was. I’d certainly go back for another glass of that red! The second part of the shoot was to capture the wines, cocktails, and interior. Luckily it was a bright, sunny day, and that made shooting the venue and the drinks a dream.

The last part of the shoot was the exterior and gardens. The gardens actually supply the kitchen, in addition to select local producers. The whole place is beautifully kept, and you can’t exactly get fresher than that!

What an amazing opportunity. I do so hope they ask me back. Either way, I hope to get the chance to eat there. What a treat!
