Bamburgh Castle Wedding Photography - Maya & Ben

Maya and Ben's wedding was a truly magical event. The couple chose to have a Hindu ceremony at Bamburgh Castle, a stunning location that provided the perfect backdrop for their special day.

I had never shot a Hindu wedding prior to Maya and Ben’s big day, and as a photographer who loves colour it was an absolute pleasure.

The ceremony began with the arrival of the bride, who was escorted by her father. Maya looked absolutely stunning in her traditional wedding attire, and she beamed with happiness as she walked down the aisle next to her father.

Ben was waiting for her at the altar, underneath the mandap, and he looked equally as handsome in his Western suit. The couple exchanged vows and garlands, and they were blessed by the priest. The priest was an incredible man, who delivered a beautiful, heartwarming, and fun service. Acharya Krishan Kant Attri MBE is the Hindu Chaplain to the Armed Forces and, I believe, a friend of the family. While I didn’t understand the words of the official service, the parts that were in English were beautiful, and the ceremony itself was full of symbolism, beauty, colour, and a nose-tweak for the groom.

After the ceremony, there was a reception on the gun terrace where guests enjoyed drinks in the sun, and I took a few formal photos whilst attempting not to blind people by posing them into the sun or blow out the background whilst shooting into the sun. It’s a tricky thing shooting in high summer, but I think we did alright.

Maya and Ben then left the castle in Maya’s dad’s 1958 MG, which had also been decorated by the super talented Sharon from Wild With Love, before meeting me at the marquee so that we could get some personal shots of them both at the beach. It made far more sense to take my car (a crappy 2012 Mazda 2), than to try and get the classic MG round the narrow Northumbrian coastal roads. I was nice and even switched The Prodigy off for them.

After the photos we went back to the marquee for some food, which was an incredibly tasty South Indian spread. Pretty sure I ate more than Ben did and he’s a good 6” taller than me, but I’ve always been a sucker for a good feed.

The reception took place the following day at the Alnwick Garden Pavillion, but that’s a story for another post! For now, please enjoy some of the pictures from Maya and Ben’s Hindu wedding at Bamburgh castle:
