Doxford Barns Wedding Photography - George & Jess

Hottest day of the year. Of course it was, and what better time to be hefting 10kg of photography kit on my back? I mean, I don’t mind, I just think you should all be aware how much I kick ass. Clue: it’s lots.

George and Jess are both rugby players, which is how they met. George contrived a conversation about sports drinks to start the conversation and the rest, as they say, is history. Personally I think that’s pretty romantic. George talked about it in his speech and made it sound like he was a little embarrassed, but honestly, I’m impressed! Not only was it relevant to both their interests, it’s innocent and non-creepy, and way more suave than that guy who tried to pick me up in a nightclub with the line “hey, you sexy little mouse, how you doin’?”

So he’s sporty, really tall, great facial hair, funny, self-effacing, and looks damn fine in a suit! I don’t see how Jess could have not married him.

Jess got ready in the Hayloft, which is a super chill apartment with lots of light for some lovely morning photographs. After getting ready with her bridesmaids, ring dog, and the coolest flower girl ever, she and George tied the knot in the Threshing Hall. It’s so beautiful in there, and such a romantic backdrop.

After confetti there were very welcome cocktails and canapes. We took a wander over into the nearby field to get a few of the formal photos but the wind and sun were decidedly not on our side. We did our best in the conditions, but I like to think that even the worst weather during a wedding gives the opportunity to create unique and personal memories.

The only thing that could be considered an issue of any kind were the helicopter flights starting over in the next field, which were noticeable but not intrusive. They were very respectful and tried not to disturb us so really not a problem. Although, they thought it might be a problem so they offered George and Jess a free helicopter ride to say sorry for being a nuisance. How nice is that!

We took some portrait photos down at the lake before heading up to the helicopter. To my absolute surprise the organisers let me get in with George and Jess to take pictures of their flight. I know the ones of them in the cabin aren’t the most flattering, but it’s a bit of fun. The big thing though, was the scenery. Damn but Northumberland is stunning! It was an incredible thing to get to do and I strongly recommend anyone to take a flight if they ever get the opportunity.

With our feet back on the ground it was time for the speeches and the meal, followed by - you guessed it - more cocktails! Espresso martinis are one of my favourites too. There were lawn games and donuts, then the cutting of the cake which was pure cheese. And I mean it was actual cheese: stilton, brie, cheddar. Brilliant! And then the dancing.

I’m a big fan of the amounts of alcohol that were served, they lead to plenty of fun photos of drunken people.

Jess got changed into a more simple dress for the evening allowing her to dance more easily, which is never a bad plan.

Honestly, it was incredible.
