Barn on the Bay Wedding Photography - Hannah & Graham

Everyone knows how much I love barn and farm weddings, so a barn at a beach was always going to be extra exciting for me. To be perfectly correct, not just “a barn” but The Barn on the Bay. A converted cow shed that has the choice - weather permitting - for you to get married on the dunes overlooking the North Sea. That’s exactly what Hannah and Graham decided to do and it was unreal!

To start their day they booked a complex of cottages in Amble that were newly built in 2020, which meant that I was able to capture everyone’s wedding day prep without missing anything. Everyone was so close together, and all the apartments were bright and perfect for the occasion, not to mention the views! For me, Northumberland beaches are the best in the UK; swathes of unspoilt white sands, rolling dunes, lighthouses and the occasional castle along the way. Can’t beat them! So when we arrived at The Barn on the Bay and the wedding was being held on the dunes overlooking the sea, you can imagine how thrilled I was (clue: it was a lot).

You arrive at the Barn on the Bay and take a short walk up to the ceremony site which is, quite frankly, breath-taking. Moira J had decorated the wedding arch with a beautiful off-set design that maintained the elegant but quirky feel to the day. The groom was already there and his groomsmen were doing a great job of distracting him with nonsense.

Hannah’s entrance was really something. The bridesmaids formed a wall around her and broke off to reveal her and her father at the last minute. It was striking and emotional. The whole ceremony was very personal, with two readings and plenty of input from the always magnificent Northumberland registrars.

After the ceremony it was on to the barn itself for beer, prosecco, canapés, and congratulations. After a suitable amount of time enjoying the company of their guests we took a short walk on to the beach to take some portraits. When I say ‘we’ I’m also including the lovely Jaye-Jae who was filming the day. We got some amazing pictures, because how could we not? A beautiful couple on a sunny August day, with dramatic clouds and an empty beach. As a wedding photographer it was a dream!

Back at the barn we did confetti and a group shot, followed by a well earned meal. The speeches were top notch and I think Graham might have picked up a new nickname. I’ll not share. I’m not that mean.

Something ran over somewhere along the line, but who cares when you’re having fun? Besides, it just meant that after everyone got covered in glitter and the first dance shimmied along, we got to go back to the dunes to take some sunset pictures. Being on the East coast we didn’t get the sunset colours, but we did get more dramatic clouds and some very wide smiles.

Thank you Hannah and Graham for having me be a part of your special day. It truly was something very special indeed.
